From May 17th to 21st, 2023, the Rotary Club of Lörrach hosted the "4-days 2023" event, part of Rotary's international Fellowship "Cycling to Serve"
During this event, we collected donations to support two charitable projects, which had been funded by participant fees, sponsorship money, and contributions from Rotary Club Lörrach.
Donations were presented to:
- The “Archemed Eritrea” project – aimed at enhancing medical infrastructure to significantly improve the lives of the children;
- “World Bicycle Relief” – which crafted multifunctional bicycles that were distributed to individuals in developing nations as part of various programs, increasing their mobility.
100 participants from 42 Rotary clubs across Europe and USA converged in Lörrach. 80 of them embarked on designated cycling routes under the guidance of local guides, while the remaining 20 engaged in a partner program.
Cyclists enjoyed a wide range of experiences, from leisurely rides through the natural beauty of the Rhine plain to challenging climbs up Belchen and Hochblauen, featuring tough ascents, thrilling descents, and breathtaking panoramic views. These tours covered the three neighboring countries of the border triangle (Germany, France, and Switzerland) and were available at distances of 50, 80, and 120 kilometers. Meanwhile, partners accompanying the cyclists had the chance to participate in the event’s cultural program, which involved visits to Basel, the Vitra House, Rötteln Castle, and the summit of Belchen.
Beyond the sporting and touristic experiences, the 4-days event forged impressive international connections, transcending national borders.
