The Bicycle Culture Days in Tatarstan.

Hats off to our friend Ildus Yanyshev. Ildus put the essence of Rotary into practice, that is peace between peoples and friendship. Ildus, a Tatar member of our Fellowship Cycling to Serve has just completed its “Global Bike Tour for Peace and Goodwill”, 24,000 km, across 14 countries, for 17 months, with a bike weighing 55 kgs. Ildus first crossed Europe then Great Britain, then the United States, China and finally Russia from Vladivostok to Kazan, where his journey ended on October 7th. About fifteen friends including the president of the Fellowship have accompanied him for the last 3 days through Tatarstan from Almetyvesk to Kazan.
The small group was awaited by a large crowd, family, friends and media. The gala evening was a great Russian and international communion. During the next 2 days, various conferences and seminars were held on different topics such as “cycling on the human service: humanitarian dimension” with local authorities and all Rotarian friends from all over Russia. Funds were also raised for Ride to End Polio. It has been a big discussion on the place of bike in our society, a great Rotary gathering with the very real presence of our Fellowship Cycling to Serve.
